archaicwordsandwordformstocontemporaryequivalents,andthenateamofvolunteersproofreadandupdatedthegrammar.
TheNewTestamentwasupdatedtoconformtotheMajorityTextreconstructionoftheoriginalGreekmanuscripts,thustakingadvantage
ofthesuperioraccesstomanuscriptsthatwehavenowcomparedtowhentheoriginalASVwastranslated.
ThestyleoftheWorldEnglishBible,whilefairlyliterallytranslated,isininformal,spokenEnglish.TheWEBisdesignedtosoundgoodand
beaccuratewhenreadaloud.Itisnotformalinitslanguage,justastheoriginalGreekoftheNewTestamentwasnotformal.TheWEB
usescontractionsratherfreely.
TheWorldEnglishBibledoesn’tcapitalizepronounspertainingtoGod.Theoriginalmanuscriptsmadenosuchdistinction.TheGreek
manuscriptswerewritteninalluppercaseletters.Attemptingtoaddinsuchadistinctionraisessomedifficultiesintranslatingdual-
meaningScriptures.
BecauseWorldEnglishBibleusestheMajorityTextasthebasisfortheNewTestament,youmaynoticethefollowingdifferences
incomparingtheWEBtoothertranslations:
TheorderofMatthew23:13and14isreversedinsometranslations.
Luke17:36andActs15:34,whicharenotfoundinthemajorityoftheGreekManuscripts(andarerelegatedtofootnotesintheWEB)
maybeincludedinsomeothertranslations.
Romans14:24-26intheWEBmayappearasRomans16:25-27inothertranslations.
1John5:7-8containsanadditioninsometranslations,includingtheKJV.ErasmusadmittedaddingthistexttohispublishedGreek
NewTestament,eventhoughhecouldatfirstfindnoGreekmanuscriptsupportforit,becausehewasbeingpressuredbymen
todoso,andbecausehedidn’tseeanydoctrinalharminit.LotsofthingsnotwrittenbyJohninthisletteraretrue,butwedecline
toaddthemtowhattheHolySpiritinspiredthroughJohn.
