chamberisasmallCorinthiancapital
(H.0.15m).
Joiningthenorthwallofthechapelon
theoutsideweretwothinperpendicular
walls,partlyuncoveredinthepresent
campaign,oneinlinewiththeentrance
andtheotheralittlefurtheraway[cf.
Fig.1].Theyaresuggestiveofyetanother
chamberbeinglocatedbehindthewall
here.Ledgesforsteps,possiblyleadingto
theemporasintheaisle,werenotedinthe
wallbetweenthetwowalls[Fig.6].The
fillbehindthewallyieldedasherdfrom
aCopticplatefeaturingawavyedgeand
paintedscenefromtheDionysiacreper-
toire[Fig.7].
KILN
Continuedexplorationofthekilnfound
undertheapseofthebasilicainvolved
extendingthetrenchabout2mtothewest
(towardthenave).Thefillonthenorthern
andsouthernsideofthetrenchcontained
numerousblocksoflimestonefallenfrom
thewallsofthebasilica.Threecoinswere
foundwiththedisturbedbuildingmaterial,
aswellasironnailsofconsiderablesize,
apieceofterracottaoillampandfragments
