internationalcontextinwhichtheprocessesofeconomicandsocialdevelopmentin
Polandhavetakenplaceoverthelasthundredyears.Intheeraofglobalisationof
liberalisation,theprocessestakingplaceintheinternationalenvironmentbecomethe
fundamentaldeterminantsofrealandregulatoryprocessesinthenationaleconomy,
becausethemechanismofconnectedvesselsworksherewithenormousandgrowing
strength.Ontheotherhand,themulti-generationaltimerangeoftheanalysisopens
upthepossibilityofcomparingtheimportanceofdifferentinstitutionalsolutions
andmacroeconomicpoliciesinshapingdeterminants,stimulianddevelopmentas-
pirationsaswellasmodernisationfocusedonimprovingthequalityoflife.Without
reliablefacts,itisveryeasytogetlostintheworldofmediocraticnoisegenerated
bytheoriesbuiltonassumptionsthatexcessivelyreducethemotivesanddirections
ofhumanactivity.
Anextremelyeconomicman,indestructibleinmainstreameconomics,reducedto
homooeconomicus,hasmanyformsofcompetitorsinheterodoxeconomics.Homo
agens-institutionalistispromotedintheneo-institutionaltrendpopularisedthrough
transformation[Chmielewski,2011].Hisfullrationalityandfreechoicearelimited
bybehaviouralinstitutions.Strongproponentsofenvironmentalismandsustainable
developmentemphasisetheabilityofaneconomicmantocooperateandactforthe
commongood.Behaviouraleconomicsalsonotesthepresenceofpeoplewhoare
emotionallylimited,subjecttoherdbehaviour,easilymanipulatedbyGecons”,who
alwaysactinacalculativeway,makeeconomicallyrationaldecisionsanddonotneed
statesupport.Therearealsointellectualsandeconomistswhoassumethatitisnot
selfishnessbutideasthatbreakthehierarchy,liberatingthemtoachievefreedom,
dignityandcreativity,servingasasourceofprogressanddevelopment[Weigel,2005;
BenedictXVI,2009;McCloskey2017].
Despitethemultitudeofeconomicman’sparadigms,proposalsforsolutionsto
economicproblemsseemmostoftentailoredtothefictitiouspersonaofaneconomic
manmaximisinghisowncountablebenefitinmarketterms,asifhispsychewasfree
ofemotional,informationalandcognitivelimitations.Theparadigmoftheeconomic
personfreeoftheserestrictionsfacilitatestheconstructionofelegantmodelsand
narrativesthatareeasytounderstandbutdoubtfulasfarasraisingthequalityoflife
intheentirespaceofdevelopmentofindividualsandmankindisconcerned.
Economicsbuiltonsuchaparadigmservesonlyitself,limitingitselftoepiste-
mologicalfunctionsbycreatingelegantmodelsthatfacilitateunderstandingof
phenomena,processesandsystems.Itsmissionshouldalso,orperhapsaboveall
else,beexpressedintheproperfulfilmentofprognosticandapplicationfunctions,
notonlydescriptiveandcognitive.Therefore,itmustbebasedonparadigmsthat
willallowusingtheorytoimplementpeople’sdevelopmentgoalseffectively.Forthis
reason,alsoineconomicswecanobserveanevolutionofthinkingabouttherulesof
operationoftheeconomicman.

turefromexcessivereductionism,theeconomyisincreasinglyreflectingtheactual
