TheWeb2.0movementopenedupanumberofopportunitiestoInternetusers,
languagelearnersandteachers.Givingaccesstonewversatileapplicationsand
providingonlinefunctionalitiescomparabletotheonesofferedbydownloadable
commercialsoftwarewerewelcomedbythelearningcommunity.However,it
wasusuallythecasethatfree-of-chargefunctionalitieswereseverelylimited,
andpremiumversionswouldhavetobepurchasedtouseparticulartoolsas
learningandteachingenvironments.AnotherproblemofWeb2.0toolswastheir
ephemerealnaturemanyapplicationsandonlineservicesstoppedtheirservice,
wereacquiredandclosedfreeaccessbyothercompanies,or,finally,mergedwith
otherservices.Alltheseprocessesmightjeopardisetheeffortinvestedbythe
teacherandlearnersintocreatingresourcesforuseinthelearningprocess.

TheeffectthatWeb2.0technologieshavehadontheirusers,aswellastheeffect
thattheusershavehadonthetechnologies,isinestimable.Therapidexpansion
ofWeb2.0toolsandapproachesintheeverydaylivesofstudents,accordingto
Thompson(2007),meansthatthepreferencesofnewergenerationsoflearnersas
regardsmoreextensivetechnologyusebyteacherswillbeevenmorepronounced.
ThiscallsforsomereflectiononthelearnersandteacherswithintheWeb2.0
framework,tocometoanunderstandingofwhatinstructionalstrategiesonthe
onehandandteachertrainingprogrammesontheotherwouldneedtobeadopted
forseamlessintegrationofthenewtechnologiesintheaverageteacher,stoolkit.
