1862(1865).TeyalsofocusonthehistoryoftheUniversitybuildings,

itsemblem,andothersymbols.Tefollowingchaptersapproachvarious

aspectsoftheUniversity’sscientiﬁcandintellectualachievementsinthe

contextofPoland’shistory.Tus,thebookgivesanaccountofthemost

importanteventscoveringtwohundredyearsoftheUniversity’shistory

andintroducesproﬁlesofitsrectors,outstandingprofessorsandgradu-

ates.Tereaderwillﬁndthenamesofscientistsandscholarsactivein

ishPainters,1850–1857],animportantpublicationontheﬁnearts.

Ofequalvaluearethesourcematerials,hithertounpublished,which

relatetothehistoryoftheUniversity’sartisticculture,collectedand

reviewedbyFeliksPawełJarocki(1790–1865),ProfessorofZoology

(seeFig.47),andlatercuratoroftheUniversitybuildings,aswellassim-

ilarmaterialscollectedbyAugustRomanKręcki(1843–1920),aclerk

attheWarsaw-ViennaRailway,studentoftheCentralCollegeandpar-

ticipantintheJanuaryUprisingof1863.6Jarockiistheauthorofthein-

valuableKronikaPałacuKaźmierowskiegozostatnich34lat(1812–1846)

[ChronicleoftheKazimierzowskiPalaceinthepast34years(1812–

1846)],whereasKręckicollecteduniquematerialsontheSchoolofFine

Arts.Teworkofbothscholars,especiallyJarocki’smanuscript,willbe

referredtorepeatedlyinthepresentpublication.
