3.1Nowtheserpentwasmoresubtlethananyanimalofthefieldwhich
YahwehGodhadmade.Hesaidtothewoman,“HasGodreallysaid,
‘Youshallnoteatofanytreeofthegarden?’”
3.2Thewomansaidtotheserpent,“Wemayeatfruitfromthetrees
ofthegarden,3.3butnotthefruitofthetreewhichisinthemiddle
ofthegarden.Godhassaid,‘Youshallnoteatofit.Youshallnot
touchit,lestyoudie.’”
3.4Theserpentsaidtothewoman,“Youwon’tsurelydie,3.5forGod
knowsthatinthedayyoueatit,youreyeswillbeopened,andyouwill
belikeGod,knowinggoodandevil.”
3.6Whenthewomansawthatthetreewasgoodforfood,andthat
itwasadelighttotheeyes,andthatthetreewastobedesiredtomake
onewise,shetooksomeofitsfruit,andate;andshegavesometoher
husbandwithher,andheateit,too.3.7Theireyeswereopened,and
theybothknewthattheywerenaked.Theysewedfigleavestogether,
andmadecoveringsforthemselves.3.8TheyheardYahwehGod’s
voicewalkinginthegardeninthecooloftheday,andthemanandhis
wifehidthemselvesfromthepresenceofYahwehGodamongthetrees
ofthegarden.
3.9YahwehGodcalledtotheman,andsaidtohim,“Whereareyou?”
3.10Themansaid,“Iheardyourvoiceinthegarden,andIwasafraid,
becauseIwasnaked;andIhidmyself.”
3.11Godsaid,“Whotoldyouthatyouwerenaked?Haveyoueaten
fromthetreethatIcommandedyounottoeatfrom?”
3.12Themansaid,“Thewomanwhomyougavetobewithme,she
gavemefruitfromthetree,andIateit.”
3.13YahwehGodsaidtothewoman,“Whathaveyoudone?”
Thewomansaid,“Theserpentdeceivedme,andIate.”
3.14YahwehGodsaidtotheserpent,
“Becauseyouhavedonethis,
youarecursedabovealllivestock,
andaboveeveryanimalofthefield.
