Temainempiricalanalysisaimstoexaminebasicdevelopmenttrendsinthe

analysisofthespeciﬁctypesoftwo-waytrade(horizontalintra-industrytrade,and

lowandhighqualityverticalintra-industrytrade,usingthemethoddeveloped

byGreenaway,HineandMilner[1995]-theGHMindexmeasuringtheshareof

particulartypesofIITinoveralltrade).

Chapter1presentstheoreticalaspectsrelatedtothephenomenonofinternational

economiccompetitiveness.Startingfromthecompetitivenesstheoryfundamentals,

theanalysisisﬁrstbasedonconsiderationsregardingthesubstanceandimportance

ofcompetitivenessinrelationtotheevolutionofeconomicthoughtandtheories.

Tosearefollowedbyanexaminationoftheinterrelationsbetweenelementsof

internationalcompetitiveability.Anotherstageofconsiderationsconcernedthe

developmentofthedeﬁnitionofinternationalcompetitivenessofcountriesand

selectedmethodologicalaspectsofcompetitivenessmodellingaswellasanalysingthe

factorsofcompetitiveness.Anattemptisalsomadetoclassifyandassessthemain

measuresofinternationalcompetitivenessandcompetitivepositionsofeconomies,

withaspecialemphasisontheroleofintra-industrytrademeasures.

Chapter2aimstopresentthephenomenonofintra-industrytradeinthelight

ofinternationaltradetheories.Testartingpointisananalysisoftheintra-industry

tradetheoryfundamentalsanddescribingthecausesoftheintensiﬁcationoftwo-
