OnonehanditpermitsusasresearchersofancientIndianthoughtandof
thetotalityofIndianculture,ourprejudices,theirindeliblepresenceand
roleinknowingwhatitiswewanttoknow.Prejudicescomefromour
ownculturebutalsofromourIndologicalknowledgewhichweorganisein

uswithanexcellentstartingpointfortheresearchinthisbook.Itcanbeseen
asthedescriptionofthestateofthemindsoftheComposersoftheearly
Sanskrittexts.Thehorizonofthepastwasalmosttangibleforthemdueto
memorisationandrepetitionoftheVeda.Thehorizonofthepresentinfluenced
them,forcedthem,toconstantlytesttheirprejudicesinrelationtothehorizon
ofthepastactiveintheirmemory.Thedirectionoffusionofthesehorizons
ledtotheultimatedenialofchangeinthecompletefusionofthepresent
andthepast,tothestateachievedinaliberatingprocesswhere4I’becomes

Itisstrikingthatthisidealissimilartotheidealoffreedomrealisedin

ofreality,themanifestationofwhichareallelementsoftheperceptibleworld
