descriptionofphoneticaccommodationexhibitedinspecificpropertiesofspeech,
especiallyprosodyinviewofitspotentialimplementationinaconversational
system.Tostudytheconvergencephenomenon,adialoguecorpuswasrecorded
indifferentscenarios,beginningfromreadspeech,throughneutraldialogues,
finishingwithextremelyexpressivespeechscenariosenablingpartialcontrolof
differentvariabilitysources.Anothergoalandimportantcontributionofthe
researchistheapplicationoftheaccommodationmodelsinasimulatedspoken
dialoguesystem(SDS)environmentusingspeechsynthesis.
Themonographisintendedforresearchersfromvariousfields,including:
linguistics(phonetics,psycholinguistics,sociolinguistics,neurolinguistics),
engineering,acousticsandartificialintelligenceintheareaofcognitivespeech
processing.
Thebalancebetweentheoreticalandpractical,experimentalspeech

thebasicissuesrelatedtoconversionalinteractionmodellingandexpressive
speechprocessing.Chapter3illustratesconversationaldatabasedesignfor
discussedmeasurementandextractionofphoneticparameters,theHarmonia
Corpusasexampleofconversationaldatabaseisdescribed.Chapter4presents
phoneticaccommodationmodelling,chapter5discussshortlyconvergence
evaluationinnativeandnon-nativespeechandalsohumanperceptionof
convergenceinsynthesiseddialogues.
Somefragmentsofthepublicationcontainbriefdiscussionsofresearch
resultscurrentlyofinteresttomanyresearchteamsinPolandandacrossthe
world.Thepresentedissuesinnowayexhausttheproblems,theyonlypose
fundamentalquestionsfromthepointofviewofthestateofthearttoday,mainly
relatedtotheextractionofinformationfromspeechsignalsforuserfriendly
knowledge-baseddialoguesystems.
Insummary,chapter6Prospectsforthedevelopmentofdialoguesystems
discussesissuesrelatedtocognitivemodellingoflanguageandspeech,creation
ofintelligentdatabases,multilingualismaswellasstandardizationandevaluation
oftoolsnecessarytoaccomplishthesegoals.
