singlewordsorletters.Tesetisbeing
studiedbyTomaszDerdafromthe
Department
of
Papyrology
of
the
InstituteofArchaeologyoftheUniversity
ofWarsawanditisonhisnotesthatthe
presentremarksarebased.Restorershave
alreadymanagedtoputtogethersome
ofthebrokenostraka;thebiggesttexts
aremadeupoffiveorsixfragmentswith
separateinventorynumbers.Furtherwork
onthesetshouldrevealmorejoins.Allthe
sherdsweredocumentedwithadigital
cameraandininfrared.Tedeposition
conditionsinthispartoftheareaare
extremelyhumid,beingjust15mfrom
thelake.Teinkinsuchconditionsis
mostlyfaded.Infraredphotographyhas
beenhelpfulindecipheringpartsthat
haveotherwisebeendegradedbeyond
legibility.
Teostrakaappeartohavebeen
discardedwhenthenotesrecordedon
themwerenolongerneeded.Teywere
writtenforthemostpartinonehand,by
somebodywritingwithease,although
itwasnotmuchofacursiveform.Te
scribeusedacertainnumberofligatures
andabbreviations.Tewritingisdifcult
todate.Basedonpaleographiccriteria,
itcanbeassignedtothe5thcenturyas
muchastothe6th.
