Thearticlediscussesthedeathofakingasapossessorofpower,whichisseenas
politicaldeath.TheauthorattemptstopresenthowposthumousimagesofPolishkings:
SigismundIIAugust,thelastfromtheJagielloniandynasty,andSigismundIII,therst
fromtheVasadynasty,werecreated.Sheassumesthatcreatingamodelimageofdeath
canbeconsideredthemainfactordifferentiatingdeathofarulerasapoliticalleader
fromdeathofordinarypeople.Shedistinguishesthreephasesofpoliticaldeath:
1.theimpossibilityofpersonalrulinganditstransfertofavourites;2.focusingonthe
successor,3.themediamourningafterking’sdeath,4.oblivionoftheruler’sdeath
andreturntocurrentmatters.Theauthorconcentratesonobservingtheevolutionof
Polishnobility’sattitudetoking’sdeath,seenaspoliticalchangeofquasi-religious
character;onquestioningimmortalityofGod’sAnointedandintheseculardimension,
onquestioninghisindispensabilitytothefunctioningofstateandlegalorder.The
interregnaweretreatednotonlyasdisasters,butalsoasachancetorestorethenatural
orderbythenobilitywhichassumedthemajestyofPoland.
