allowedtoincur.InthecommunityofPoznań,electorssetalimiton

howmuchmoneythepamaswouldbeallowedtospend.In1659,

thelimitwashalfazloty(15gr.);in1663,45gr.Whenthepamas

wantedtospendahigheramount,hehadtoseekpermissionoftwoor

threepamasim.[19]ThePoznańelectorsnominatedthreemento

controltaxesandexpenses,andnomonthlypamaswasallowedto

spendmorethan3or4zloty(zł.)duringhismonthlytermwithout

theirpermission.[20]InSwarzędz,apamaswasprohibitedin1717to

signoﬀareceiptfortheamountsinexcessof3zł.withoutnotifying

thetmstee,andin1734,theauthoritieshadtoinvokeanearlier

regulationthatthepamaswasnotallowedtosignaslipofmorethan

3zł.,unlesshediditwithtwootherpamasim.[21]

Themonthlypamaswaseitherprohibitedfromincurringvarious

expensesoracollectivedecisionhadﬁrsttobemade.Hewasnot

allowedtopresentagifttoanyone,unlessheinformedanotherpamas

ortoviabouthisintention.[22]Therewasalsoamaximumlimitof

almswhichthepamaswasallowedtogiveabeggarofanother

community.Hecouldsupportalearnedbeggarwhowantedtopreach

asermontothepublic,providedallpamasimwereinformedabout

it.[23]Adecisiontoinviteacantorfromanothercommunitytolead

theprayersinthesynagogueontheSabbathwasnottakenby

themonthlypamasalone,butbythewholekahal.[24]Themonthly

pamaswasalsonotallowedtograntanyextrasumstoabrideifthey

weretoexceedwhatshehadalreadybeenpaidoutofaspecialdowry
