CALLandforeignlanguagedidacticsarecloselyinterrelated,andteacher
developmentinoneinfluencescompetencesandabilitiesexhibitedintheother.
Whileteachertraineespracticehowtodeliverlanguageinstruction,theydevelop
anawarenessoftheproblemsandpitfallstheymaycomeacrosswhileusing
computersinteaching.Asteachersbecomeincreasinglyconfidentintheuseof
particulartools,theinstructionaluseoftechnologyshouldgetmoretransparent,
evenretreatingintothebackground,withthedidacticpurposetakingthemost
prominentplace.Hopefully,thisstageof‘normalisation,(Bax,2003)willbe
achievedinthenearfuture,iftheCALLteacherdevelopmentprocessisundertaken
withamplecarebyeducationalestablishmentsatthetertiarylevel.
