pertisedevelopmentisthehumanabilitytointegrateknowledgewhichis

neededtoperformatranslationtaskathand.Thisabilitystillexceedsthe

capacityofmachinetranslators.Makinganefforttograsphowtranslators

activateandintegrateknowledgeintowhatItermedaKnowledgeIntegra-

tionNetwork(KIN)ishopedtoenhanceourunderstandingofthehuman

translatorbeforeanattemptismadetoapplyittomachinetranslation.Be-

forethefuturisticdreamsofcomputertranslationaremadetruetheneedto

educateprofessionaltranslatorsisconstantlygrowingandcallingformore

efficienttranslatortrainingmethodology.

Thebookconsistsofsevenchaptersandisdividedintoatheoretical

andempiricalpart.Chapter1aimstoestablishcommongroundsfora

comprehensiveviewoftranslationasahumanskillpresentedinthis

analysis.Itstartswithasuggestionthatwe,ashumans,areinfactall

translatorsifweconsiderthenatureofhumanlanguagewhichencodes

ourideasandintentionsandallowsustocommunicatewithothersand

depositinlanguagevitalinformationforfuturegenerations.Yet,werarely

thinkaboutlanguageuseastranslationunlessweexperienceproblems

mationencodedinonelanguageintoanotherlanguagewhichopensthe

developmentalcontinuumoftranslationasahumanskill.Manyforms

andfacetsoftranslationareanoutcomeofthispredispositionwhichgives

peopleanaturalabilitytotranslate.Formanyinterculturalencountersthis

naturalabilityissufficienttoensuresocialinteractioninmultilingual

communities.Translationisindeedabroadsocialphenomenon,bilingual

childrentranslateonaneverydaybasis,L2userstranslate,L2learners

translateandofcoursepracticingtranslatorshavetheirhandsfulltokeep

communicationgoingonaglobalandlocalmarket.ThepointwhichI

makeinchapter1isthatalthoughtheyarealltranslatorstheyoccupydif-

ferentstagesonthedevelopmentalcontinuumofthehumanabilityto
