toindividualanddirect(Lat.se—every)care,attention,eńort,control,
andprotection.ItisfromtheseLatinwordsthatEnglish“safety”and
“safe”haveoriginated.TeEnglishwordsafecamefromtheLatinwords
salvus—healthy,whole,secure,intact,preserved—andsalutis—health,
security,salutations—andfinallysalus—health,happiness,luck,pres-
ervation,salvation,goodness,wholeness.InLatin,therefore,securityis
associatedwithexistenceandlifewithoutcare(moreprecisely,self-care
oranycare,control,attention,andsupervision);withaserene,healthy,
whole,good,free,happy,fullandevenperfectlife(Seeinterpretationin
Jagusiak,2018).
Nowadays,safetyiscommonlyassociatedwithactivitiesaimedat
preparingforpotentialthreatsthroughso-calledsofactivities,focusing
onadoptingappropriatesecuritypolicies,organizationalsolutions,or
theimplementationoftrainingprojects.Securityshouldbeunderstood
astheprocessofshapingsecurity/safetyconditionsthroughtheuseof
technicalmeasures,includingvarioussecuritysystems.Asaresult,the
securityoforganizationsystemscanbesignificantlyimprovedwithaco-
ordinatedapproachtobothsafetyandsecurity(ByresandCusimano,
2010).Ametaphorfacilitatingunderstandingofthedińerencesbetween
safetyandsecuritycanbeanumbrella(Coursen,2014)standingforthe
conceptofsecurity,whichprotectssafetyunderneathit.Tefunctionof
theumbrella—asaprotectivetool—istomaintainasenseofsecurity,un-
derstoodhereasmentalandphysicalprotection(Dobrowolska-Opałain
Misiuketal.,2021,p.).
Teconceptofsafety2hasbeenrecognizedforcenturiesandiscon-
sideredtobeoneoftheanthropocentriccategories.Itcanbefoundin
anumberofscientificdisciplinessuchaspoliticalsciences,law,econom-
ics,sociology,history,andpsychology—tonamejustafew—andeachof
