Indiawaschosenasasubjectoftheresearchduetoseveralreasons.(1)Nextto
China,Indiahasbecometheseconddonorintermsofvolumesofprovidedaid
amongalldevelopingcountries-providersofSouth-Southdevelopmentassistance.
(2)Then,contrarytoChina,Indiawaslargelyoverlookedandignoredbyscholars
workingonthephenomenonofrejuvenationofSouth-Southdevelopmentco-
operation.OwingtolargeamountsofprovidedaidandhighvisibilityofChinese
activities,especiallyinAfrica,Chinareceivedalotofpublicity.Intheshadowof
Chinaremainaidrelatedactivitiesandresourcetransfersofotherkey‘emerging
donors’-BrazilandIndia.(3)Furthermore,Indiasinceitsindependencehasbeen
activelytakingpartinestablishingtheSouth-Southaxisofinternationaleconomic
co-operation.Thecountryhasalonghistoryofengagementoninternationalfora
promotingandpursuingtheSouth-Southagenda.Finally,(4)Indiabeingamongthe
mostadvanceddevelopingcountriesthatgainindependenceaftertheSecondWorld
War,possessedagroupofeducatedeconomistswhocouldworkonandrespondto
theideasofdevelopmenteconomicsdevelopedbyWesternscholars.
TakingintoconsiderationthatintheColdWarperiodIndiawasrecognizedas
adonor,domesticallyandinternationally,andthecurrentinterestinthephenomenon
ofso-calledemergingdonorsandtherejuvenationofSouth-Southcooperation,there
issurprisinglyscarceliteratureonthesubject.MostofWesternscholarsworkingon
developmentassistancewereinterestedinIndiaasanaid-receivingcountryrather
thanadonor.InIndiaonlyfewworkswerepublishedonthattopic.Thekeybooks
