23.1ThenJesusspoketothemultitudesandtohisdisciples,23.2saying,“ThescribesandthePhariseessatonMoses’seat.23.3Allthings
thereforewhatevertheytellyoutoobserve,observeanddo,butdon’tdotheirworks;fortheysay,anddon’tdo.23.4Fortheybindheavy
burdensthataregrievoustobeborne,andlaythemonmen’sshoulders;buttheythemselveswillnotliftafingertohelpthem.23.5Butall
theirworkstheydotobeseenbymen.Theymaketheirphylacteries[*]broad,enlargethefringes[*]oftheirgarments,23.6andlovetheplace
ofhonoratfeasts,thebestseatsinthesynagogues,23.7thesalutationsinthemarketplaces,andtobecalled‘Rabbi,Rabbi’bymen.23.8But
don’tyoubecalled‘Rabbi,’foroneisyourteacher,theChrist,andallofyouarebrothers.23.9Callnomanontheearthyourfather,forone
isyourFather,hewhoisinheaven.23.10Neitherbecalledmasters,foroneisyourmaster,theChrist.23.11Buthewhoisgreatestamong
youwillbeyourservant.23.12Whoeverexaltshimselfwillbehumbled,andwhoeverhumbleshimselfwillbeexalted.
23.13“Woetoyou,scribesandPharisees,hypocrites!Foryoudevourwidows’houses,andasapretenseyoumakelongprayers.Therefore
youwillreceivegreatercondemnation.
23.14“Butwoetoyou,scribesandPharisees,hypocrites!BecauseyoushutuptheKingdomofHeavenagainstmen;foryoudon’tenter
inyourselves,neitherdoyouallowthosewhoareenteringintoenter[*].23.15Woetoyou,scribesandPharisees,hypocrites!Foryoutravel
aroundbyseaandlandtomakeoneproselyte;andwhenhebecomesone,youmakehimtwiceasmuchofasonofGehenna[*]
asyourselves.

23.25“Woetoyou,scribesandPharisees,hypocrites!Foryoucleantheoutsideofthecupandoftheplatter,butwithintheyarefull
ofextortionandunrighteousness[*].23.26YoublindPharisee,firstcleantheinsideofthecupandoftheplatter,thatitsoutsidemaybecome
cleanalso.
23.27“Woetoyou,scribesandPharisees,hypocrites!Foryouarelikewhitenedtombs,whichoutwardlyappearbeautiful,butinwardlyare
fullofdeadmen’sbones,andofalluncleanness.23.28Evensoyoualsooutwardlyappearrighteoustomen,butinwardlyyouarefull
ofhypocrisyandiniquity.
23.29“Woetoyou,scribesandPharisees,hypocrites!Foryoubuildthetombsoftheprophets,anddecoratethetombsoftherighteous,23.30
andsay,‘Ifwehadlivedinthedaysofourfathers,wewouldn’thavebeenpartakerswiththeminthebloodoftheprophets.’23.31Therefore
youtestifytoyourselvesthatyouarechildrenofthosewhokilledtheprophets.23.32Fillup,then,themeasureofyourfathers.23.33You
serpents,youoffspringofvipers,howwillyouescapethejudgmentofGehenna?[*]23.34Thereforebehold,Isendtoyouprophets,wisemen,
andscribes.Someofthemyouwillkillandcrucify;andsomeofthemyouwillscourgeinyoursynagogues,andpersecutefromcity
tocity;23.35thatonyoumaycomealltherighteousbloodshedontheearth,fromthebloodofrighteousAbeltothebloodofZachariahson
ofBarachiah,whomyoukilledbetweenthesanctuaryandthealtar.23.36MostcertainlyItellyou,allthesethingswillcomeuponthis
generation.
23.37“Jerusalem,Jerusalem,whokillstheprophets,andstonesthosewhoaresenttoher!HowoftenIwouldhavegatheredyourchildren
together,evenasahengathersherchicksunderherwings,andyouwouldnot!23.38Behold,yourhouseislefttoyoudesolate.23.39ForItell
you,youwillnotseemefromnowon,untilyousay,‘BlessedishewhocomesinthenameoftheLord!’”

24.1Jesuswentoutfromthetemple,andwasgoingonhisway.Hisdisciplescametohimtoshowhimthebuildingsofthetemple.24.2But
heansweredthem,“Youseeallofthesethings,don’tyou?MostcertainlyItellyou,therewillnotbelefthereonestoneonanother,that
willnotbethrowndown.”
24.3AshesatontheMountofOlives,thedisciplescametohimprivately,saying,“Tellus,whenwillthesethingsbe?Whatisthesign
ofyourcoming,andoftheendoftheage?”
24.4Jesusansweredthem,“Becarefulthatnooneleadsyouastray.24.5Formanywillcomeinmyname,saying,‘IamtheChrist,’andwill
leadmanyastray.24.6Youwillhearofwarsandrumorsofwars.Seethatyouaren’ttroubled,forallthismusthappen,buttheendisnot
yet.24.7Fornationwillriseagainstnation,andkingdomagainstkingdom;andtherewillbefamines,plagues,andearthquakesinvarious
places.24.8Butallthesethingsarethebeginningofbirthpains.24.9Thentheywilldeliveryouuptooppression,andwillkillyou.Youwill
behatedbyallofthenationsformyname’ssake.24.10Thenmanywillstumble,andwilldeliveruponeanother,andwillhateoneanother.
24.11Manyfalseprophetswillarise,andwillleadmanyastray.24.12Becauseiniquitywillbemultiplied,theloveofmanywillgrowcold.24.13
Buthewhoendurestotheend,thesamewillbesaved.24.14ThisGoodNewsoftheKingdomwillbepreachedinthewholeworldfor
atestimonytoallthenations,andthentheendwillcome.
24.15“When,therefore,youseetheabominationofdesolation,whichwasspokenofthroughDanieltheprophet,standingintheholyplace
(letthereaderunderstand),24.16thenletthosewhoareinJudeafleetothemountains.24.17Lethimwhoisonthehousetopnotgodown
totakeoutthethingsthatareinhishouse.24.18Lethimwhoisinthefieldnotreturnbacktogethisclothes.24.19Butwoetothosewhoare
withchildandtonursingmothersinthosedays!24.20Praythatyourflightwillnotbeinthewinter,noronaSabbath,24.21forthentherewill
begreatoppression,suchashasnotbeenfromthebeginningoftheworlduntilnow,no,noreverwillbe.24.22Unlessthosedayshadbeen
shortened,nofleshwouldhavebeensaved.Butforthesakeofthechosenones,thosedayswillbeshortened.
24.23“Thenifanymantellsyou,‘Behold,hereistheChrist,’or,‘There,’don’tbelieveit.24.24Fortherewillarisefalsechrists,andfalse
prophets,andtheywillshowgreatsignsandwonders,soastoleadastray,ifpossible,eventhechosenones.
24.25“Behold,Ihavetoldyoubeforehand.24.26Ifthereforetheytellyou,‘Behold,heisinthewilderness,’don’tgoout;‘Behold,heisinthe
innerrooms,’don’tbelieveit.24.27Forasthelightningflashesfromtheeast,andisseeneventothewest,sowillbethecomingoftheSon
ofMan.24.28Forwhereverthecarcassis,thereiswherethevultures[*]gathertogether.24.29Butimmediatelyaftertheoppressionofthose
days,thesunwillbedarkened,themoonwillnotgiveitslight,thestarswillfallfromthesky,andthepowersoftheheavenswill
beshaken;24.30andthenthesignoftheSonofManwillappearinthesky.Thenallthetribesoftheearthwillmourn,andtheywillseethe
SonofMancomingonthecloudsoftheskywithpowerandgreatglory.24.31Hewillsendouthisangelswithagreatsoundofatrumpet,
andtheywillgathertogetherhischosenonesfromthefourwinds,fromoneendoftheskytotheother.
24.32“Nowfromthefigtreelearnthisparable.Whenitsbranchhasnowbecometender,andproducesitsleaves,youknowthatthe
