becomeasetofsucceedingepisodes,unconnectedchronologically,which
canexistparalleltoeachother.Relationshipsandobligationsareflexible,
newidentitiesareconstructedandexperimentedwithallthetime,andthe
abilitytoforgetseemstosupersedetheabilitytoremember(Bokszański,
2005,p.255).Insuchalifestyle,effectivestrategyistoputofflong-term
commitments,nottodependonhavingoneprofession,toexerttherightto
haveasayinwhatishappeningatpresent,ortoavoidthestateofbeingla-
belled(Bokszański,2005,p.256)soastobeabletoeasilyabandonaniden-
titywhichisuncomfortable.AnembodimentofsuchastrategyisBauman’s
identityofHatourist”,whoisalwaysonthemove,situatedoutside,looking
fromthedistance.Attheotherendofthecontinuumistheidentityof
Havagabond”,whoalsowanders,butnotfromhisorherownchoice,orwho
staysinoneplaceasotheronesareinaccessibletohimorher.Bauman(2000,
p.151)arguesthatfreedomofchoiceisthemainstratifyingfactorinsociety
today.Inotherwords,itcanbesaidthatthemorefreedomofchoiceanindi-
vidualhas,thehigherpositioninthesocialhierarchyheorsheenjoys.
Allinall,postmodernandlatemodernconceptsviewidentityasmultiple
andhybridthatcanbechangedatwill.Inspiredbythechangestakingplace
inWesterncivilization,ideasofperceptionsofidentityaretheconcernof
modernsocieties.Theseideascanbeconsideredanemergingsocialorder,
whichisgaininginimportanceandwhichcharacterizesthosewhosetnew
trendsforidentityformation.
1.1.3NarrativeandDiscursiveConceptsofIdentity
Apartfromthepoststructuralistconceptsdiscussedabove,contemporary
understandingsofidentityattachattentiontoitsnarrativeanddiscursivena-
turewhichlaysbarethefoundationsforthecreationoftheconstructsofnar-
rativeidentityanddiscursiveidentity.
