thecommunityandtheywereauthorizedtosignbillsofexchange.
Thiswasprobablythemainreasonwhysomecitizensdidnotwantto
acceptthepositionofpamas.Therecordsalsoidentifythekahal,i.e.,
thepamasimandtovim,asthedebtor.InPoznań,themonthlypamas
wasobligatedtoreportonthecommunity’sdebtstothekahalbefore
hewouldstepdownfromhisoffice.Therearealsoentriesreading
thataspecificpamaspaidmoneytothecommunity’screditors,either
torepaytheprincipalorinterest.[28]ThePoznańelectorsinstructed
thatonSt.John’sFeast,whichwasthedayonwhichtheinterest
accmedondebtswouldusuallybepaid,allfivepamasimshouldbe
presentinthekahalhousetoassistthemonthlyparnas.[29]Thereis
arecorddatingfrom1653thatonthatdaybothpamasimandtovim
weretogettogetherinonegroupandcontactnobilityforthecommon
benefit.Thosewhorefusedwouldhavetopayaveryhighfine.[30]
Beforeleavingforafair,themonthlypamaswouldhavetocallall
pamasimandtovimwhoweretocheckandcounthowmuchmoney
theywouldneedatthefairtocoverthenecessaryexpensesandtopay
interestor,asappropriate,setfairtaxes.Theircollectionwastheduty
ofofficialswhowenttothefair.[31]Afterthefairwasover,pamasim
andtovimweretoapprovethefairrevenuesandexpenses,
theaccountswererecordedinthepinkasandundersignedby
themonthlypamasandonetovi.[32]
Thepamaswasalsoresponsibleforcontrollingtheaccounts.
Pamasimwereobliged,especiallythemonthlypamas,tocheckevery
weekandmonthalltheaccountskeptbythetrusteeandtoapprove
themwiththeirownsignatures.Theyalsosignedthetrustee’spinkas.
